Consistent. We all have heard that term, but what exactly does that mean? Oxford Dictionary defines consistent as:
“acting or done in the same way over time, especially so as to be fair or accurate.”
In my book, I mention consistency several times. The reason is it takes time to overcome some of the challenges we may be having with our mental health. Take negative self-talk, for example. When we are constantly being bombarded by those degrading thoughts about ourselves, it takes time and consistent effort to change the negative talk to the positive. This is why so many people give up trying to change the negative talk to positive talk. They may try for a short time, but after a week or so of not seeing a difference, they give up. Not giving up and continuing to use the tools I outline, is the key to success. Remember the old phrase, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again?” That certainly applies when you are trying to change negative thought patterns. It takes time and consistent effort. How long it takes can be different for everyone, but one thing I know is the tools work, just as long as you don’t give up and be consistent. You will find success!
The two practices I have found to be the most successful in changing negative self-talk to positive are:
Remember, consistency is the key to success.
Until next time, God bless.
